Pour in the truth

- Christian Science Nurse Notes

“The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour in truth through flood-tides of Love. Christian perfection is won on no other basis” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 201).

What a wonderful opportunity is given to us, through Christian Science, to understand that Christ pours into our thought truth through “flood-tides of Love”! In Christian Science nursing, I feel this divine influence on a daily basis, when I work to serve others humbly and tend to their needs. Knowing this work to be the manifestation of the one and great healer, God, in action, brings fresh inspiration every moment. Through regular prayer for myself, I find I am able to confront the dream of life and sensation in matter with poise and calm, and I’m also able to demonstrate needed practical wisdom. I strive to keep my heart and thinking constantly open, receptive to the Christ.

I have also learned that encouragement is very welcome, but it is not Christian Science to apply human will to assist someone. Human will can seem to influence or change the mortal “dream,” but cannot bring permanent healing. The awakening out of the dream of life in matter happens through Christ’s tender touch. A Christian Science nurse needs the Christ-spirit. It is not just what she or he does, but how it is done, that establishes the healing atmosphere needed in a sickroom. Love inspires, and only Love can do the work; it is divine Love alone that heals. Human will cannot heal and has no part in Love.
