Without borders

- Christian Science Nurse Notes

The qualities that a Christian Science nurse expresses are fundamental to being a healer.

Mary Baker Eddy talks about these qualities in Science and Health. She writes: “The nurse should be cheerful, orderly, punctual, patient, full of faith,—receptive to Truth and Love” (p. 395). These qualities have no borders and are, as the marginal heading suggests, “Aids in sickness.” They bring support and healing to every human need. Everywhere!

Whenever I travel, the cultivation of those qualities, of being “full of faith” and “receptive to Truth and Love,” has been so instrumental in helping individuals I had never met before. Part of my being “full of faith” comes from praying with a stanza from a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal, “My prayer, some daily good to do / To Thine, for Thee; / An offering pure of Love, whereto / God leadeth me” (Mary Baker Eddy, No. 253).
