Making time for prayer

- Practice, Practice, Practice

I’ve been in the public practice of Christian Science healing for a total of 18 years. I’ve advertised my practice in The Christian Science Journal for eight of those years. The practice has been one of the most amazing, challenging, and inspiring things I’ve ever done.

I have to say that there were parts of the practice I was not prepared for. A big one was how important it is to pray for oneself before doing anything else. My Christian Science teacher had told me that. Other practitioners had told me as well, and articles in the Christian Science periodicals had spelled this lesson out in detail. Somehow, I didn’t get the message—until I really needed to.

When I started in the practice, I had an 18-month-old son. Over time, my husband and I added two daughters to our family and all that comes with having three children. Between my family and my practice, I spent most days feeling there was no time to pray for myself. I would get to “me” later, I thought. Later never came.
