A band of consecrated Christians

- What Membership in The Mother Church means to me

I grew up in a family with a mom who was fully dedicated to Christian Science, and a dad who respected its moral teachings but did not feel comfortable relying on Christian Science prayer for healing. My brother, sister, and I were generally free from the usual childhood diseases, which I attribute to my mother’s preventive prayers. However, I experienced several painful earaches. My father’s hearing was impaired after suffering from chronic ear infections as a child, and this made him worry for my health.

Before the age of 12, I underwent an operation that was intended to heal my proclivity to earaches, but they continued. Throughout my childhood, I faithfully attended Christian Science Sunday School and often studied the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson before going to school. And though I experienced several healings, the earaches didn’t go away.

Because I believed and had seen proofs that Christian Science is the Truth, I eagerly joined the Mother Church soon after the age of twelve, the minimum age for becoming a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist.
