A gift that lasts a lifetime

- What Sunday School meant to me

When I was a young boy, attending Christian Science Sunday School, my Sunday School teacher ended each class by saying, “Remember, kids, if you ever get into trouble, don’t be afraid. Say to yourself, ‘God is with me and God will take care of me.’ ”

When I was seven years old, I had a chance to use what my Sunday School teacher had told us. A friend of mine and I decided to walk home from school one day instead of taking the bus. It was early March in Wisconsin. Spring was only a couple of weeks away. Although it was still the end of winter, it was a nice, warm day.

Both my friend and I lived near a large lake almost eleven miles long. The lake was still frozen, and since we had been ice skating on it the past weekend, we decided to walk across it to get home.
