MAN'S TRUE BUSINESS

From the June 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Viewed from the standpoint of the material senses, business life seems to be threatened on all sides. from within and from without, by the forces of evil, defeat, and dissolution. Indeed, in the present so-called emergency, many employers and employees alike are experiencing the effects of fear and foreboding due to their belief in the reality and power of material conditions over which they seemingly have no control. Most aggressive of these varying phases of erroneous thought are the belief in and fear of world-wide economic upheaval, governmental restrictions, curtailments, and priorities, material shortages, oppressive taxation, and a rising tide of inflation which might inundate all business.

Unequipped and perhaps unacquainted with the guiding charts of a practical scientific Christianity, which unerringly leads the way out of darkness and chaos, thousands of business navigators today are finding difficult sailing on the turbulent sea of mortal mind. The darker the mental horizon becomes, and the more tortuous the course, the greater is the need for the animating influence of Truth to help one steer clear of the hidden shoals of materiality and the quicksands of wrong thinking.

Christian Science, as revealed to the world by Mary Baker Eddy, is a veritable beacon light of hope, comfort, and cheer to all who are seeking refuge from the storm. This Science teaches that the testimony of mortal mind, with its failures, its shipwreck and desolation, is a wholly false picture of life and business, the outcome of a material sense of existence which counterfeits the real universe, the real man and his spiritual activity, of which God, divine Mind, is the one source and creator. Christian Science reverses the false evidence of the carnal mind with the light of Truth; it enables mankind to perceive the divinely real opposite of materiality, and find peace. The Scriptures tell us that "to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
