SOWING BESIDE ALL WATERS

From the September 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is characteristic of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, to begin what she said or wrote with a word of encouragement. This is illustrated by the very first words in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It opens with the joyful news that "to those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Pref., p. vii). Then she paints for us in tender pastel colors the fair sunrise of Soul. These are her words: "The wakeful shepherd beholds the first faint morning beams, ere cometh the full radiance of a risen day."

God's revelation of Christian Science brings nearer that risen day. As our eyes scan eagerly the world horizon today, many of the morning beams appear to gladden our heart. While the agreement which is drawn up probably will not be perfect, neither is a child's first step always firm. There must, however, be a first step before there can be the steady tread of manhood. The prayers rising from devout hearts all over the world, have, with divine aid, brought this wonder to pass, and God will continue to be on our side as long as we are on His side.

Shakespeare thus beautifully and poignantly speaks of Jesus' ministry:
