WHY CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS LOVE THEIR LEADER

From the November 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science is no longer thought of as a new religion, a seven-day wonder, soon to disappear into oblivion. Nearly a century has elapsed since Mary Baker Eddy perceived the ever-operative Christ-principle, recorded and illustrated in the Scriptures, and felt its healing touch in her own experience. The conviction of God's essential goodness had been with her from childhood and had persisted through human trials which would have overwhelmed a less valiant nature.

Invalidism, the loss of those near and dear to her, poverty in the early days, and later, unfaithfulness in students, persecution from church, press, and the medical profession—all these Mrs. Eddy faced with quiet courage and unflagging devotion to her goal. For after the unmistakable proof of God's ever-available power which her healing brought her, she realized that she must share this precious revelation with all mankind. In due course it became evident that the Church of Christ, Scientist, should be established to restore primitive Christianity with its lost element of healing, the same healing which Christ Jesus practiced centuries ago.

Students of Christian Science are now a great multitude, and branch churches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, exist in many parts of the world. Why? Because healing is going on, healing of difficulties of all sorts. The power of God has been made plain to earnest seekers through the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." In this book Mrs. Eddy sets forth divine rules for the demonstration of the religion that she denominated Christian Science.
