MEMORY EVER FAITHFUL TO GOOD

From the March 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit. Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, 'Thou art whole!"'

These words on pages 390 and 391 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy are an admonition filled with promise to the struggling heart. There may be times, however, when to "blot out the images of mortal thought" seems exceedingly difficult. Because the memory of discord at times seems to be more vivid than that of harmony, one may be tempted to believe that discord is capable of undermining one's health and happiness. This is not, however, the truth of being, and one can prove the ever-presence of harmony when one realizes that memory which reflects omniscient Mind is ever faithful to good.

There is in Christian Science no memory of past failure, of unhappiness, or of periods of pain and inharmony, for these do not belong to the realm of Mind, of divine consciousness. We read on page 276 of Science and Health, "Man and his Maker are correlated in divine Science, and real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God." In the consciousness that is "cognizant only of the things of God" there can be no dark images of mortal thought, no haunting, illusory mental pictures of sin, disease, and death.
