EXPUNGING THE MATERIAL RECORD

IN "Retrospection and Introspection," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes (p. 21), "It is well to know, dear reader, that our material, mortal history is but the record of dreams, not of man's real existence, and the dream has no place in the Science of being." And on the next page she says, "The human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged."

Mortals are sometimes uncertain how to revise their human histories by expunging unpleasant material records from their thinking. Christ Jesus said to Nicodemus, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).

Startled at these words, Nicodemus asked, "How can a man be born when he is old?"
