EARNING OUR WAY

From the October 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science is the way of Life, which may be demonstrated individually through one's earnest study and application of this pure Science. At this point of emergence from the Adamic dream, however, mankind must work diligently for the least understanding of divine Science. The Scriptures inform us that God's work is finished, but this absolute, true sense of things comes to the human consciousness only by degrees and through earnest, honest effort.

Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 233): "The ages must slowly work up to perfection. How long it must be before we arrive at the demonstration of scientific being, no man knoweth,—not even 'the Son but the Father;' but the false claim of error continues its delusions until the goal of goodness is assiduously earned and won."

By means of the study of Christian Science, one can change one's thought patterns and thereby come more fully into the wonders and glories of infinity and eternity, which are not far-off events but present possibilities and which one can demonstrate with painstaking faithfulness to the truth of being. We read in Proverbs (13:11), "He that gathereth by labour shall increase." Jesus also implied payment for our labors, when he said, "The labourer is worthy of his hire" (Luke 10: 7) . But before there can be payment, there has to be honest, earnest labor in any situation.
