Class Instruction: Light for the Journey

From the June 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A vivid account of spiritual enlightenment is recorded in the dramatic story of Saul on his way to Damascus. In zealous pursuit of the early Christians, following his highest sense of right at the time, he suddenly received a vision of the Christ that was unutterably brilliant. In complete humility, Paul, as he was soon to be known, fell to the ground. His magnificent ministry began as he arose from his knees in obedience to divine direction. He was a changed man.

The radiant, heavenly light that shone around the apostle was not a miraculous appearance of the human Jesus, but the glorious outpouring of the Christ, Truth, which today reaches mankind through the teachings of Christian Science. This marvelous light comes to individual consciousness through glimpses of divine Truth, growing steadily brighter with the spiritual progress of the student.

From early childhood Mrs. Eddy was keenly interested in Christ Jesus' method of healing and teaching. Wonderfully restored to active health following an accident so severe that it threatened her very life, she began objectively and systematically to test the truths of Christianity, which had healed her, by healing others through prayerful application of spiritual truths and by explaining to them the scientific basis of these truths.
