CITY FOURSQUARE

From the January 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The North Star guides the mariner at sea
With compass that directs unerringly;

The one attraction of God's holy Word
Draws men instinctively unto the Lord.

In eastern sky, a star's bright diadem
Forever crowns the child of Bethlehem.

The Christ light of long centuries ago
Still shines today with undiminished glow.

The constellation in the southern sky
Unites mankind in an unbroken tie.

This heavenly sign of Christianity
Mirrors the cross for all humanity.

By western golden shore, the peaceful sea
Suggests the star of Love and harmony.

In ratio earth-concepts disappear,
Eternal verities of Mind grow clear,

And thus, as symbols pass away, we see
Equations of divine reality;

Directions, east and west, from pole to pole,
Transmuted into measurements of Soul:

Daystar of Science, at meridian,
North, east, and south and west combine as one

New heaven and new earth—divinely fair—
Temple of God—the city built foursquare.
