From the November 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If we start from the basis that man is a mortal in need of healing, we are apt to have a long, hard struggle. A mortal is not man but man's counterfeit. To heal through prayer we need to detect the counterfeit, set it aside, and then discover what is really there—the perfect manifestation of Mind.

Healing in Christian Science is based on the present perfection of man. In the New Testament we are told, "Now are we the sons of God."I John 3:2; Instead of being a mortal struggling to become perfect, man is now, and always will be, perfect and eternal as God's reflection. Mrs. Eddy tells us, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,— perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."Science and Health, p. 259;

For successful healing it is important that we learn this. Man is the individual design of Mind's self-expression, never beginning, never ending, but always existing in the realm of Mind. Man dwells in the consciousness of Love, where he is completely harmonious and eternal. Every aspect of his existence unfolds under the control of divine Principle.
