Under the splendor of the sun

From the October 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I received the letter announcing that I had been accepted as a member of The Mother Church, a feeling of deep joy permeated my thought—a joy such as I had never felt before. But the moment arrived when I had to delve deeper into the significance of this link with The Mother Church, this unity, and the spiritual duties that I had accepted. "Unity is spiritual cooperation, heart to heart . . .," The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 162. says Mrs. Eddy, the Founder of The Mother Church.

How does The Mother Church cooperate with us? By expressing the essence of God's Mother-love. Through its activities—authorized in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy—including the publication of Science and Health and all the other authorized literature of Christian Science, The Mother Church maintains unadulterated the teachings of this Science and provides uninterrupted and untiring response to our spiritual needs.

How do we as members spiritually cooperate with The Mother Church? By enveloping the Church in love as we do our branch Church of Christ, Scientist. This demonstrates that the unity derived from divine Principle, Love, is invulnerable. Loving with joy is our spiritual duty. Out of gratitude we can govern our entire lives with the laws of divine Life, Truth, and Love, and thus strictly respect the teachings of Christian Science.
