Poems

Like Mary

From the December 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary kept all these things,
and pondered them in her heart.

(Luke 2:19)

Mary's Soul-sense
magnified aloud the Lord,
grasped the destiny
of the child she bore.
Then, with silent yielding,
she gathered understanding
one kernel at a time,
paused where others hurried on.

Today gleaning hearts again
pledge a healing Christianity,
attest with joy Christ's ministry;
then labor silently,
ponder development, delay, victory.
Like Mary, we must measure inspiration
to demonstration's demands,
obey angels
and understand.
