The grace of God encircles His offspring

Original in Spanish

From the October 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The word grace abounds in the Scriptures, but what is grace really? There are various meanings given to grace, but one understands it best to the degree that one understands God and the power of His infinite love. And one recognizes grace to the degree that one is receptive to the action of Love, which operates continuously for the good of man.

Grace has been described as "the unmerited love and favor of God toward mankind; divine influence acting in a person to make the person pure, morally strong, etc.; a special virtue, gift, or help given to a person by God." From this we can begin to see how essential divine grace is.

Mrs. Eddy recognized mankind's need for grace. In Science and Health she provides the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer. She interprets the line "Give us this day our daily bread" as "Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections." Science and Health, p. 17. It is only through divine grace that we achieve all good in our lives.
