Testimonies of Healing

My husband was not a...

From the May 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My husband was not a Christian Scientist, so he felt that if the children were not healed quickly, he would take them to a doctor. I always turned to God immediately in time of need. When my youngest daughter was two, she woke one morning with swollen glands on her neck. There did not seem to be any pain, but she was quieter than usual. At that moment I decided to rely wholly on spiritual healing and called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. My daughter was just a baby at the time, and she continued to play quietly while I prayed to see God as her true Father-Mother. Within a few hours the swelling disappeared. My daughter was completely healed by that evening. This healing was permanent. I chose to take a stand for the healing power of God in my life and in the life of my children. The truth is that simple. All that needed healing was the belief that my daughter could be sick. By calling on God to heal her, I was accepting the truth that we are all living in Spirit and therefore our identities are whole, complete, and spiritual. The body had to correspond to that correct thought.

I am happy to say there was never a time that my husband had to take our children to a doctor. Each illness or inharmonious experience was healed by turning to divine Mind as the source of our life. And many healings ensued through the years.

Another experience we had was when my young daughter came to me in the night with an earache. She was in pain and was crying. I held her on my lap and began singing hymns to her from the Christian Science Hymnal. The healing words of the hymns helped to quiet my thought. I then turned to Unity of Good by Mrs. Eddy and began to read aloud from the beginning of that book. After a time my daughter became calm. I read: "Everything is as real as you make it, and no more so. What you see, hear, feel, is a mode of consciousness, and can have no other reality than the sense you entertain of it" (p. 8). I continued to read until the end of the book and drank in the absolute truths of the goodness of God and of His creation. In doing this I forgot all else and simply basked in the consciousness of God, good. When I finished the book my daughter was asleep. I put her to bed and she woke in the morning completely healed.
