We're to practice loving

(See Luke 7:36-50 and Science and Health, pages 362-367.)

From the November 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Do you love Christ
enough to cry
with tears of joy?
Our grievous sins he was
crucified to end. Repent.

The Master asked
that the heart be moved.
Touched, not distanced.
Yearn, when given the lift
of love, to give it in return. For instance:

One unabashed penitent
made an appearance unasked
at Simon's evening meal, plates full.
Wiped Jesus' feet with her hair after tears and
warm kisses; such pouring of gratitude. She'd witnessed,

Experienced, his forgiveness.
In synagogues, on streets,
children embraced him.
Foot-weary outcasts of blame,
reformed by the Son, were completely renamed.

Yet the Pharisee, Jesus' host,
at that woman's o'erflowing
got richly upset.
Chary of his respect,
toward change unbent, was acting. Arrogant.

Which of these two
ministries calls you:
Aggrandizement—Chastisement X
Love then, not only God—
yes, He forgives you, friend—but all.

No "Brahman" serves midnight
meal, the mission
to heal. No "pariah"
the patient. God numbers each hair.
Refashions. A heart—strikes compassion—on fire.
