From the October 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When it comes to the subject of health, many people have an insatiable desire for information. They search the Internet and bring their findings to their health care providers. They feel they have a right to understand their health options and make their own choices. Is it possible that this sea change is being driven by a fundamental issue of rights? Is an intuition developing that we have a right to health?

It seems natural to think of health as a basic freedom everyone is entitled to—regardless of age, environment, or heredity. Our cover feature this month talks about health and freedom as divine rights. Author Marta Greenwood tells how her eyes were opened to the freedom everyone deserves as a child of God when she read Mary Baker Eddy's work on spiriutal healing, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures—now in its 125th year of publication. A timeline tracing the development of this book and its impact on people's ideas about God and health appears in this issue. Also, don't miss the interview with a professor of medicine who refers to the revolution going on now in medicine as "a great awakening."

We hope that this month's Journal contributes to an awakening to God's gifts of health and freedom—both for our readers and for all they touch through their prayers.
