When I was first given a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I was working in a branch of immunology research at a well-known research center. At that time I was deeply frustrated. Long hours of experiments designed to discover how the immune system breaks down and what could be done to arrest disease when it did, seemed to be going nowhere.
From early childhood I had dreamed of pursuing a medical career so that I could help others. While I had loved my college courses that led to participating in the research, and in the beginning, the research itself, I was feeling empty and unsatisfied. It seemed to me that huge amounts of time and money were being spent on projects that led to very little in the way of healing solutions.
Then the book Science and Health came into my life. In all honesty, when I began reading it I argued with almost everything. And when I wasn't arguing, I was convinced I didn't understand what I was reading. But I was impelled to keep going. And within a few months, I became aware that dramatic changes were taking place.
