SQUARE ONE

From the December 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

AS AN INVETERATE DO-IT-YOURSELFER, I'M FAR TOO EASILY TEMPTED to take on more work than I should. From house painting to landscaping to heavy lifting, I always seem to feel there's no need to call in the professionals—I can take care of it myself. Apparently, my approach to healing is no exception.

I discovered this not too long ago when a friend and I were discussing the Christ, God's healing truth acting in human consciousness. I'd mentioned a recent physical healing I'd had and noted that once I felt certain in my prayers that nothing could separate me from God's loving embrace, I lost all concern about the physical symptoms. I just knew they would disappear—even though I couldn't imagine exactly how that would happen. And sure enough, they did.

"Well, yeah," my friend replied. "It's like Jesus said, 'Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.' John 8:32 . Your job is simply to know the truth. It's the truth's job to make you free."
