In this series members from diverse backgrounds and experiences share what special meaning membership in The Mother Church has for them.

My story about the blessing of Mother Church membership involves an unlikely place—a hospital emergency room.

Playing second base in a Men’s Senior Baseball League game, I received a deep gash one day from a spike on a double play. Given the large amount of bleeding and the league’s insurance policy, it seemed best to get the wound cleaned and patched up at a nearby hospital.

On the way (I was able to drive) I prayed for myself, which is what I normally do in these types of situations. I asserted that my true being was spiritual, not material, and that I existed in God, where no accident had ever occurred. I knew that all physical evidence to the contrary was just the suggestion of the carnal mind that I possessed a material body and was therefore vulnerable to injury.
