Turning the dragon into an inchworm

From the August 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One day, as I was about to call a Christian Science practitioner for help, I was tempted to voice all the ugly details of a problem so he would know how hard he had to pray for me. Then I started to laugh at how foolish that was.

Evil makes enough noise in the world without needing any help from me. I also realized I might be using the practitioner as an ear for the anger I wished I could have expressed to a person who had hurt me. Then I laughed again because I knew I was more than halfway to healing by getting to the point of seeing what really needed to be healed. All I had to say was, “Help me to forgive.” There really was no requirement for 20 minutes of he said/I said.

When I ask myself the question “What is it that really needs healing?” it becomes easier for me to see that a common denominator to every challenge is the fear of separation from divine Love. Seen from that perspective, one problem is really no more threatening than another. This line of reasoning helps me turn the dragon into an inchworm.
