The ‘science’ of Christian Science

From the August 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In 1875 when Mary Baker Eddy first set down Christian Science in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, she expounded on its divine Principle and law. This exposition makes it clear to me that her discovery had the nature of a science. It is also clear to me that Christian Science empowers humanity to understand and demonstrate the nature of God—divine Love—and the power inherent in that nature.

We have to be grateful that this discovery was made, because it removed the understanding of God from the domain of tradition, conjecture, and ceremony, into the realm of precise understanding. The science of her discovery was not a factor of her personality or belief, any more than personality or belief was an aspect of Einstein’s theory of relativity. Christian Science has the discerned attributes of a science, albeit spiritual in nature.

Mrs. Eddy’s textbook, Science and Health, elaborates in great detail every aspect of this Science—divine Principle—and how it operates. Putting into practice the full knowledge of such parameters requires the same dedication as any other scientific pursuit.
