The divine Comforter and the healing power of Love

From the July 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

“… the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”—Jesus (John 14:26)

Oh, the inexpressible comfort! Think of how it must have felt for your life to have been touched by Jesus himself. To experience the divine Comforter coming into your heart, making everything new, transforming your whole sense of who you are and what you’re worth—making the blind to see, the lame to walk, the deaf to hear, and the grief-stricken to rejoice.

One particular example from the New Testament comes vividly to mind: the account of the man with leprosy who approaches Jesus, hoping somehow to be made whole. This account appears at the beginning of chapter eight in Matthew’s Gospel, as well as in other places in the Gospels of Mark and Luke.
