Testimonies of Healing

A childlike acceptance of healing

From the October 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Once while our family was living in Jerusalem, my five-year-old daughter saw me lying on the couch, suffering from a sudden onset of physical illness. I had managed a few quiet, prayerful thoughts, reaching out to God for healing and seeking a clearer sense of my true harmonious being as God’s child. But honestly, I was pretty discouraged and mesmerized by this sense of sickness.

My daughter, who had been taught some of the basics of Christian Science, came to me, put her arm around me, and—uncharacteristically—said nothing. She just loved me. The power and presence of divine Love was so transparently reflected in the pure, unselfed affection she expressed that I was healed instantly. All suffering simply vanished; it could not withstand the sheer goodness of divine Spirit.

Frankly, I was surprised at the suddenness of this healing. Grateful, yet surprised. But my daughter was not a bit surprised. As the founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, states in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “If Spirit or the power of divine Love bear witness to the truth, this is the ultimatum, the scientific way, and the healing is instantaneous” (p. 411).
