Back again after transfer

From the November 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Years ago, I worked for a major corporation that had to downsize owing to a federally mandated divestiture. This meant many employees were forced to either accept a transfer to a company location out of town or be terminated.

I had to accept a job that required a five-hour round-trip commute each day. I didn’t feel comfortable in the new location or its atmosphere; the forced move meant I had to take a job that an employee who already lived there had been hoping to transfer into, so I didn’t feel very welcome.

My job was one of the last to be downsized, and I’d heard from various reliable sources that it would take at least a year before any jobs would open up again back in the city we lived in. I held to the truth that, as Psalms puts it, “My times are in [God’s] hand” (31:15), not in human hands, and that I’d be guided and cared for by Him.
