How can I be reborn and find the real me?

From the December 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Q: How can I get rid of a deep sense of shame and guilt about what was done to me and what I’ve done to others? Basically, how can I be reborn and find the real me?

A: Your question reminds me of a brief but meaningful question and answer given by Mary Baker Eddy: “How shall we reach our true selves? Through Love” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 104).

We see our true selves—we are born again—through loving God, divine Love, and recognizing how deeply and dearly He loves us. Then, inevitably, we begin to stop condemning ourselves and to love ourselves as we really are—as God’s pure, perfect reflection. And as we do that, we find ourselves loving others, too. Even the smallest expression of love helps us to find our real selves, because it acknowledges our unbreakable connection with infinite Love.
