Injured ankle healed

From the April 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After retirement from a long career, it came time to disperse our large collection of household belongings to family members in various locations across the country. That included setting up a small rental house in order to be near our brand-new twin grandchildren. For me it was a joyous time of creating a little home away from home for family and friends to enjoy while cherishing our new family members.

On the first morning I was preparing to help care for the new babies, as I tidied up our place before leaving, I suddenly found myself on the floor with a severely twisted ankle. Knowing that in reality man is always perfectly governed by God and cannot make a misstep, I loudly proclaimed, “No!” With no one to call upon except God, I immediately began to pray with truths from the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson, which included the topic of accidents.

One citation I recalled from the Lesson was a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony” (p. 424). Another helpful citation was: “Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be” (p. 397).
