Two Healings from One Bible Lesson

From the April 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was the beginning of a week-long business trip. I was on a transcontinental flight heading for the East Coast of the United States and reading the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson when I strongly felt that I needed to pray for our son. I started by asking God for guidance. I was led to affirm that our son was protected, whole, and undamaged. I thought about how each of those conditions was an unchangeable fact based on his status as God’s child, created in God’s spiritual image and likeness.

The Bible Lesson for that week was titled “God the Preserver of Man.” It closed with Psalms 121:8: “The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore” I prayed to know clearly that, in all of his activities, my son was preserved and protected by God at all times. I also prayed to see more clearly that God’s creation is spiritual and complete. My son’s real being is spiritual, not physical, and he is never lacking anything—is always complete. I silently declared that God is almighty, that there is no evil power that can damage His creation.

While I was praying, the thought occurred to me: Why did I receive the intuition to pray? Was my son in trouble? I was starting to be concerned. I realized that I had to resist the temptation to be afraid. I thought about John’s statement that “perfect love casteth out fear” (I John 4:18). I knew that God is the only possible source for “perfect love,” because God is divine Love itself. As I continued to pray with these thoughts, a feeling of peace came over me. The fear left and I knew that my son was safe. I silently gave thanks for God’s love and care for all His children.
