Healing brings ‘new birth’

From the June 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was employed at a successful and growing investment firm, which overnight in November 2003 experienced a change of leadership because of allegations of unethical behavior. Staff morale was low while government regulatory agencies began their investigations. Anger and resentment seemed to dominate the atmosphere at work. Many employees were terminated.

At the time I was serving as First Reader of my branch Church of Christ, Scientist. This inspired activity helped lift my thought somewhat from the burden of work, but finally it became evident in the fall of 2004 that I needed to take time to pray more deeply for myself. A condition in my mouth kept me from speaking clearly. I had trouble eating, swallowing food was painful, and oral hygiene was impossible.

I had treatment from a Christian Science practitioner for a few days, but the growing concern of my family and friends needed to be allayed by showing how Christian Scientists care for one another practically in times of need. Spiritual healing through prayer, as taught in Christian Science, has been my only choice throughout my life because I have continuously experienced its beneficent effects. And this surely was a time to prove its value once again! I knew that my family also would be blessed by my God-supported stand.
