Of Good Report

A foundation for home

From the May 2018 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Psalms are so full of insights into the spiritual nature of home. Throughout the Psalms, words such as abide, dwelling place, refuge, secret place, green pastures, and house of the Lord have helped me to gain a sense of home as where my thought rests on and in God’s presence and power.

These references indicate not only that we are held secure within God’s care, but also that the true “home” where our thoughts dwell or rest is in an awareness of God’s nature and power. The Psalms point us toward a deeper sense of home as our constant thought and action in God.

These ideas provided needed inspiration at the end of my first summer in graduate school. I had found a graduate program that felt like an answer to prayer. It led me in a career direction where I felt I could make a real contribution.
