It can be easy to forget or brush off the “small” healings we experience—but I’ve learned that it is so important to acknowledge all our victories in Christian Science.
Mary Baker Eddy says of her discovery: “My conclusions were reached by allowing the evidence of this revelation to multiply with mathematical certainty and the lesser demonstration to prove the greater, as the product of three multiplied by three, equalling nine, proves conclusively that three times three duodecillions must be nine duodecillions,—not a fraction more, not a unit less” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 108). To me, that says that even the smallest demonstration of this Science is valuable, because the same healing truths apply when we’re faced with adversity that seems much greater.
One of the best exercises I’ve found to illustrate this point is something I learned from my Christian Science teacher and now refer to as the “zero analogy.” Here’s how it works: Take out a piece of paper and draw a zero. Now draw a really big zero. Now draw a really small zero. Now draw a zero with a really dark outline. Now draw two zeros of about equal size. Now draw a bigger zero with a really light outline.
