I have relatives with some property and a cabin in a very remote area. One of the challenges there is to provide ourselves with some form of running water.
Recently I have gained a deep appreciation for the continuity that the Manual of The Mother Church gives to the ongoing life of Christian Science today. To my sense, this slim book has an undergirding Principle expressed in its pages, while leaving room for Soul’s qualities to guide branch churches in applying its rules to their unique needs.
What if the billboards on the highway were filled with the qualities and synonyms of God, instead of alluring advertisements? In my study of Christian Science, I recently started examining what it means to consciously live my life in a way that starts from a spiritual basis—and disproves the attempts of mortal mind to drag my thinking into a material, culture-driven atmosphere. I have learned that my communion with God comes through thinking clearly, recognizing the allness of God, and glorifying the spiritual qualities that I reflect as His child.
One time I went on an annual camp-out trip with a large group of elementary school students and their parents. It was an exciting fall weekend to welcome new families and take time for freedom from our urban environment, to enjoy the beauty of nature in the wooded mountains, looking out on a beautiful, clear lake.
