Testimonies of Healing
Four years ago I was engaged in evangelistic work among the mountains north of Bentonville, Ark. The work seemed to be prospering, and afforded me much pleasure both in mind and heart.
In 1903 I was healed of a complication of diseases through the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and at the same time was enabled to lay aside glasses that I had worn for several years. The last oculist who attended me said I would never be able to see without them, and that as I grew older stronger lenses would be needed.
It is with joy and thanksgiving that I express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. In January, 1914, I began to study Science and Health with a thought of proving all things and holding fast that which is good.
It is over seventeen years since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I was a physical wreck.
I feel it my duty to tell of some of the blessings I have received through the power of divine Love. When I turned to Christian Science, I felt there was nothing to live for, and I was not prepared to die.
It was twelve years ago that Christian Science was first brought to my attention when a friend gave me a copy of the Journal. I read it, yes devoured it, for it contained something for which I was hungering.
My blessings since coming into Christian Science five years ago have been so manifold that I feel I should no longer hide my light "under a bushel," but let it shine forth, possibly to help some one struggling for health and happiness. My little daughter, four years old, had been a victim of asthma for three years, and after one of her attacks she was left with a severe cough.
A few years ago I first learned of the teachings of Christian Science. My father was a physician and I knew no Scientists in my native city.
My life was saved by Christian Science—of this I feel certain. While establishing a new business in Chicago, I was suddenly stricken with fever and lameness, so that in three days I was unable to walk or ever stand on my feet.
One morning I was raising a window which had a defective fastening, when it came crashing down upon my hand and severed the entire tip of the little finger, tearing the nail out with it. I immediately sent word to my husband and to a Christian Science practitioner, who advised having a surgeon replace the severed end.
