Testimonies of Healing
God has blessed my life over and over again, and I feel compelled to give thanks for this with a testimony. Through Christian Science I came finally to know that God really exists.
I was born a very sickly child, and it was hard for my mother to find food I could keep on my stomach. Before I was ten years old I had had the measles twice, whooping cough, chickenpox, and yellow jaundice.
Some months ago I came across a childhood memento, a 78 rpm recording my uncle had made of me singing hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal when I was just five years old. I was amused in listening to it after all these years because, as I sang those hymns from memory and a cappella, I got the verses scrambled; and at the end of each verse I would raise the pitch, until at the last verse I was squealing as high as I could go! As humorous as I found this, I was also surprised at how earnestly and emphatically I had sung some of the hymns.
I'm very appreciative of the good that has come to me and to my family because of the desire and effort to practice the Science of Christ. A Christian Scientist for many years, I once thought everyone perceived things as I did: that man (you and I) is not cursed; that man is not evil; that man is spiritual.
A beautiful gold locket I often wear has a photograph of a smiling young couple with their little two-year-old son— my mother and dad and their first child. These smiles soon turned to tears, however, for the little one suddenly became very ill, and even though the very best medical help was sought, he died of pneumonia.
In 1989 I moved to a place that is nicely accessible to public transportation in order to travel without difficulty. But my office was still some distance away, which was not convenient.
Testimonies of healing shared in Christian Science churches and magazines have contributed a great deal to my spiritual growth. One healing in particular awakened me more fully to God's ever-present love, and to the efficacy of Christian Science to heal.
A grateful heart a garden is, Where there is always room For every lovely, Godlike grace To come to perfect bloom. "Christian Science Hymnal", No.
In March 1989, while on a visit to my hometown with my husband, my oldest brother and I were taking care of some family business when we were involved in a rearend auto collision. A policeman had been across the street and witnessed the whole scene.
I must offer my gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for the Church she founded, and for all the loyal workers who have made possible the church organization, the Bible Lessons, the Christian Science magazines, and the outreach of shortwave radio broadcasts When I became pregnant with my fourth child, I was just preparing to start a career. The other children were in school, and I'd just completed major commitments of service to my branch church.
