Poems

Practitioner and Patient

From the June 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Just as a child who trustingly
An older brother's hand will take
And follow unafraid and free
Through pathways dim, where shadows make
Weird patterns, upward to the wide
And open spaces, hilltops high,
Into the golden light beside
Still waters, so we, eager, try
The upward way. Supported, led
By Life and Truth, our vision clears,
Our needs by Love divine are fed.
And as the summit's glory nears,
We see our home: the door is wide,
Our feet with wings of joy are shod.
The older brother steps aside:
We find our Father-Mother God.
