Testimonies of Healing

Although late in expressing my love . . .

From the November 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Although late in expressing my love for and appreciation of Christian Science through the periodicals, I wish to give some of the many reasons for my heartfelt gratitude to God, divine Love, for this living, loving truth.

In my case it was necessary to realize my utter helplessness before I accepted or even wanted the truth. Materiality was very real to me; and the more of its so-railed pleasures I tasted, the more I searched for, until my indulgences became bitter and useless, no longer giving pleasure, but rather pain and despair. As our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says (Science and Health, p. 6). "Every supposed pleasure in sin will furnish more than its equivalent of pain, until belief in material life and sin is destroyed."

I had suffered many years from a painful organic condition, which many physicians and much medicine had failed to heal, and the extreme pain was alleviated only temporarily by the use of drugs. When it became difficult to obtain drugs, relief was sought through the use of liquor, and, as in the case of the drugs, the aftereffects were dire.
