Church in Action

A summer evening in the park

From the June 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A Christian Science lecture for young people—in the park?

Yes, said members of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Miami, Florida. If that's where the young people congregate, that's where we'll go.

And so, more than two hundred young people were on hand one summer evening in Coconut Grove's Bayfront Park to hear a talk by Joseph G. Heard, member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship. It was a very informal affair, with most people sitting on blankets on the grass. While many young Christian Scientists were present, quite a few others were hearing about Christian Science for the first time. Among these were high school and college students, as well as some of the "park people," who come there regularly to rap with friends and play the guitar, et cetera.
