No recession in Mind

From the January 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are you going along with the insistent predictions of recession? Are you subscribing to the philosophy that there must be greater unemployment to cure inflation?

Regardless of the scope or duration of recessions and the wide belief that they are unavoidable, Christian Science shows us how to stay out of the ranks of those who fearfully await and passively submit to such an event. Even though our voice may seem to be as one "crying in the wilderness," we can reject such predictions and contend against them as confidently as we would against a predicted epidemic of disease. We can practice man's exemption from mesmeric influence. Mrs. Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, writes: "Jesus taught us to walk over, not into or with, the currents of matter, or mortal mind. His teachings beard the lions in their dens. He turned the water into wine, he commanded the winds, he healed the sick,—all in direct opposition to human philosophy and so-called natural science."Unity of Good, p. 11;

Jesus, our Way-shower, understood the substantiality of Spirit. This enabled him, without planting or gathering, to produce by instant realization the sustenance needed to feed people. He actually multiplied five loaves and two fishes into sufficient quantity to feed five thousand people, and he did it right before their eyes.
