The Annual Meeting of The Mother Church is a special time for members. It's time for reaffirming the deep Christian commitment of members to the healing mission of The Mother Church in the world. This year, in addition to the Annual Meeting where reports were given, the worldwide outreach of The Mother Church was shared with friends and neighbors who were invited to a four-day open house, called "A Global Voice," which was held in the Christian Science Publishing House on the weekend before Annual Meeting. A report on the open house is included in this Journal.
This year's report from The Christian Science Board of Directors was included in a new booklet that will be available throughout the world in Christian Science Reading Rooms. The booklet is entitled Christian Science: A Report For The '90s and was prepared by the Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society. One of the most important events reported for the coming year is the launching of The Monitor Channel, a complete cable service of news, features, and information for cable systems throughout North America.
As the Report notes in a message from the Board of Directors, "In this advancing era, spirituality can no longer be dismissed as incompatible with civilization and the individual and collective progress of man. Spirituality is civilization's best friend. Prayer is the God-given means for cultivating that spirituality and applying it to all human needs. The men, women, and children of the 20th and 21st centuries will be blessed as they open the door evermore widely to the knocking of Truth."
