'It's the greatest book!'

Fred Allen of American Bible Society talks about the African American Jubilee Edition of the Bible.

From the January 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The African American Jubilee Edition of the Bible isn't a new translation or interpretation of the Bible, but is a new setting for the King James Version and the Contemporary English Version. Each version includes a 283-page preface comprising essays and images that call for fresh engagement with the Holy Scriptures through the lens of the African American experience.

spoke recently with , director of the office of church relations for the American Bible Society, who began the research that led to the Jubilee Edition.

"The Bible is an incredible, nurturing resource, and a fulfilling manuscript, historically, for me," said Mr. Allen. "I read it daily. I'm in love with it. I'm just as much enchanted with it as I was when I first recognized its potential as a young boy. I would recommend it to anybody and everybody. It is a great book. It's the greatest book!
