ROLE REVERSAL

From the February 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Talk about a curve ball. Margaret Imrie was supposed to have a low key year. With her youngest son in nursery school, this mother of three boys was looking forward to having her mornings free for the first time in a decade. Margaret, a trained vocalist, planned to use much of the time for music-related pursuits.

But then her husband called and broke the news: He'd been let go. Margaret quickly arranged to work as a salesperson at a friend's new design store until Gordon found another job. Two weeks later, though, the friend asked Margaret to take on the role of assistant manager of the store, which was located on New York's upscale Madison Avenue. Two weeks after that, she asked her to be the manager.

The Imries decided to look at the unexpected turn of events as an opportunity.
