FROM THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE BOARD OF LECTURESHIP

A MESSAGE ABOUT LECTURES

From the August 2009 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Keeping abreast of the times these days is like being in a footrace with a bullet train! Maybe you know the feeling of finally mastering a new technology only to discover that it's already out-of-date. But while technology changes, the Science of Christ doesn't. It is just as relevant today as it was when Mary Baker Eddy discovered its healing power over 100 years ago, and when Jesus sent his disciples out to "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils" (Matt. 10:8). However, this Science is frequently ignored, misunderstood, or confused with what it is not. There is an ongoing need to counter the spread of misinformation by engaging public thought in a consideration of what Christian Science really is, its relation to the Bible, and how it applies to life in the 21st century.

The Board of Lectureship, together with branch churches and societies, is actively engaged all year round and throughout the world in meeting the need for accurate information about Christian Science and Mary Baker Eddy. To learn more about how and where this is being done, you're invited to explore our new Web pages at www.christianscience.com/blogs/lectures. Here you will find easily accessible information about planning lectures, along with new features including video excerpts from current lectures, an audio podcast series, and more.

In addition to providing information about our regular public lectures, which are open for anyone to attend, this website will help you locate lecturers available for talks to youth and other special audiences. One need to which we're giving particular attention is lectures in classrooms. Did you know that Christian Science is discussed in many religion and theology classes in high schools and colleges? Several members of the Board of Lectureship are specially prepared to respond to requests for speakers in these and other classes. We welcome these opportunities!
