A VISIT WITH SPECIAL FRIENDS

AN EDITORIAL FOR OUR YOUNGER READERS

From the August 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WELL, GOOD MORNING, MY FRIEND. Or maybe good evening. Or good afternoon. I'm writing this article on a Saturday morning, but I never know when someone like you will read it!

I'm writing because I just had a visit with a few longtime and dear friends of mine, and that visit reminded me of you. That's because I think they probably are among your dearest friends, too. These friends are Christopher Robin, Pooh Bear, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Eeyore, and all the other creatures in that delightful book, Winnie the Pooh, by A. A. Milne. Do you know them, too, or remember them?

Of course, all the delightful characters in that book are make-believe even though they may seem real when you watch some of their adventures on TV cartoons like a certain close friend of mine whose name begins with an A. But when we stop to think of it, we know they are all make-believe, don't we? Your real life is eating soup with a spoon and coloring at your Nana's kitchen table instead of adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood.
