YOUR INSIGHTS

From the September 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In these pages we've gathered several shorter items—articles of less than a page in length and excerpts from longer manuscripts that offer useful, inspiring insights. We hope you enjoy this kind of short-form nourishment in each issue.

SOMETHING I'VE LEARNED in my study of the Bible and the teaching of Christian Science is that man reflects God's image and likeness. What this means to me is that I reflect the power and intelligence of God, divine Mind, and so does everyone I encounter. This is much more useful to me than a mortal mind boasting to be humanly powerful or intelligent, or having the right connections to other mortal minds. By acknowledging that man reflects divine Mind, I can see tangible evidence of Mind bringing about good solutions.

So why doesn't everything go right all the time then? We could liken it to when members of an orchestra aren't paying attention to how the conductor is leading them. The orchestra's members may sometimes think they've got a better way of doing things without realizing they're no longer in concord with the greater work. Sometimes, we have to give up our own sense of human organization and yield to God's divine orchestration. God is giving each of us good ideas all the time, and our lives unfold gracefully when we listen to those ideas and act on them. If we mess up, we don't need to feel like God is out of that situation. We can acknowledge Mind's control, and listen for divine guidance. Whether things are going to plan or not, we will benefit by doing this. The more consistently we listen, the more alert we are to God's guidance in every situation.
