Letters

From the November 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The September Journal is full of wonderful articles and updates for which I am grateful. Rosalie Dunbar’s article on the upcoming new Christian Science Hymnal Supplement is very exciting.

Throughout my study and application of Christian Science, hymns have more than once provided the spiritual insight and support for healing. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states on page 234 of her seminal work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science—blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ’s table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty.” The current Hymnal Supplement, which reflects a wide variety of cultural diversity, has been a source of joy and inspiration to my branch church and me, and I am very excited to see the upcoming edition.

Also, I want to express my gratitude for Lyle Young’s editorial “Are You Active in a ‘Small’ Church?” I especially appreciate and concur with his statement, “You see, here, where numbers aren’t so high, each of us is not a remnant but a pioneer, in this time and culture.”
