Christian Science practitioner and teacher William Stay likes to keep it simple. “I love to use analogies when it comes to healing, because it opens up thought to what we actually are,” he says. He invokes Mary Baker Eddy’s deep, but no-frills answer to the question “What am I?”—noting that she called it a “scientific response”—“I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing” (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 165).
