Welcome

From the September 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Joy Cusack–staff

Recently I was talking to a colleague about the word should. How easily it can slip into thought in regard to Christian Science: I should read the weekly Bible Lesson more . . . I should give more attention to the periodicals . . . I should never miss Wednesday night testimony meeting. That word can be a real killjoy to our inspiration. So I looked up the word in the Oxford Dictionary and found its origin: “shall.” Ah. Doesn’t that word give a sweet release—more a sense of unfoldment, a sense of invitation?

This month, as always, you’re invited into these Journal pages. Lyon Osborn, Treasurer of The Mother Church, kicks off with the latest in our Manual By-Law series: Per Capita Tax—alerting us to the humble link between gratitude and giving. Germany’s Michael Seek brings news about the four print Heralds. For the first time in its history, each Herald will share the same content in its individual language—German, French, Portuguese, Spanish—further expression of the universality of the Christ Science.
